World number one Novak Djokovic showed no signs of rust following his US Open triumph, winning his opening match at the Paris Masters on Wednesday.

Djokovic consolidated his end-of-year unit when he beat Tomáš Martin Etcheverry 6-3 6-2 and reached the third round in the French capital.

The 36-year-old could extend his lead to 1,495 points by winning a record seventh Paris-Bercy title after his nearest rival Carlos Alcaraz lost in his opening match on Tuesday.

Djokovic, chasing a record 40th Masters 1000 title, will next play the Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor.

Grigor Dimitrov fought his way to a 6-3 6-7 (4-7) 7-6 (7-2) triumph against Daniil Medvedev and reached the third round.

The Bulgarian will take over Alexander Bublík further, where he reached the semi-finals in 2019.

Stefanos Tsitsipas endured a tough test from a resurgent Felix Auger-Aliassime, where the Greek’s serve helped him seal a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) triumph.
