The declaration was signed by Minister for Energy Transition and Sustainable Development Leila Benali and Director General for Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations at the European Commission Gert-Jan Koopman on the sidelines of COP28.
This funding of approximately USD 50 million, spread over 5 years, mainly includes €43.6 million in budget support and €1 million in additional support for technical assistance and capacity building and twinning.
The agreement is part of the implementation of bilateral green partnership programs to support reforms carried out by Morocco in the field of renewable and new energies, including green hydrogen, and the strengthening of research and innovation in these sectors, as well as the decarbonization of developing sectors, Ms. Benali told reporters, noting that the kingdom is the first country, which signed such a partnership with a European party.
