Abu Dhabi, 16th October 2023 (WAM) — His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with José Ramos-Hort, President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste in Abu Dhabi.

During this meeting, Sheikh Abdullah and President Ramos-Horta discussed their friendly relations and ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various fields including economy, trade and investment to serve the development goals of both countries and benefit their people.

The discussions also focused on cooperation in the field of sustainable development and climate change in the context of the holding of the conference of the contracting parties (COP28) by the UAE. They emphasized the leading role of this global event in achieving a qualitative leap in global climate action.

Sheikh Abdullah welcomed the visit of President Ramos-Horta and reiterated its importance for strengthening cooperation between the two countries on various fronts.

The President of East Timor, in turn, expressed his country’s desire to strengthen relations with the United Arab Emirates, praising the country’s leading development experience.
