From movies to TV series, the black aesthetic takes center stage

From the rise of streetwear to the creativity of textured hair, from the history of (Dutch) wax to the power of new black peplums, T Magazine dedicates a special issue to the Afro aesthetic. 2018 year. The world is discovering the first black superhero in the history of the annual movies on the big screen. With Black PantherThe Marvel franchise centers around the figure of King T’Challa and his kingdom of Wakanda, which he protects against all odds in a futuristic black panther suit.

Quick success. The show, written by African-Americans Joe Robert Cole and Ryan Coogler, grossed more than $260 million in the United States in five days. Black Panther then stayed at the top of the North American box office for five consecutive weeks.
