[Handball] World champion Chloe Valentini continues in Metz

World handball champion Chloe Valentini has extended her contract in Metz until 2027, the Lorraine club announced on Tuesday.

Valentini, one of the best left-wingers in the world, arrived in 2021 with the Dragonnes before becoming their captain.

“Obviously my decision was difficult to make, I'm almost 29 years old, I've always wanted to play abroad,” she said in a press release from the club, which has won five of the last six French championships and regularly made the quarterfinals. – Champions League final since 2017.

“Today I'm at the best club in France, the best club in Europe, I'm having fun every day in training and that's a real luxury,” added the Morteau (Doubs) native.

Valentini is the first major signing for next season for Metz, who will lose another 2023 world champion, goalkeeper Hatadou Sako (Györ/HUN), as well as Denmark internationals Kristin Jørgensen (also Györ) and Louise Burgard (Odense/DEN).

“Chloe's extension is one of the best pieces of news I've had in a very long time, probably even since I've been a coach for sure (…). Without going too far ahead, I hope I can already say that Chloe is our best team member for the next season, said Lorraine coach Emmanuel Majonad in the club's press release.

Next season, Jürgensen will be replaced by Hungarian national team player Petra Vamos (Deberecen), who has also signed up until 2027.

“Metz” is currently leading the championship (11 wins in 11 days) and second in its Champions League group (seven wins against two defeats).
