ICC Men’s World Cup 2023: In one of the biggest upsets of the ICC World Cup 2023, Afghanistan handed England their second defeat of the tournament by 69 runs. This is Afghanistan’s second win in ICC FIFA World Cup history and the fact that it came against the defending champions made it a highlight. The defeat dented England’s chances of a top 4 race as they still have to face serious contenders for the trophy like India and South Africa.
India’s legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar hailed Afghanistan for their historic victory and also pointed out why England’s batting line-up collapsed against the Afghans. Sachin Tendulkar said batsmen need to read the hands of quality bowlers, which the English batsmen failed to do.
“Fantastic all-round effort by Afghanistan led by solid batting from @RGurbaz_21. Bad day for @ECB_cricket. Against quality spinners, you have to read them out of hand, which the English batsmen failed to do. Instead, they read them off the field, which I think led to their downfall. They loved the energy they brought to the field. Well played @ACBofficials!” posted Sachin Tendulkar on X.

Former India opener Virender Sehwag was also unhappy with England’s performance and raised doubts about the team’s chances of making it to the semi-finals. “Looks like Eng and Aus will battle it out for top 4. #ENGvsAFG,” he wrote on X.
Australia and England are one of the strongest teams in the ICC World Cup 2023, but they did not have a good start to the tournament. Out of 3 matches, England have lost two against New Zealand and Afghanistan, while Australia are still waiting for their first win after losing their opening two matches against India and South Africa.
