“Icon of the Sea”: The world's largest cruise ship sets sail

The largest cruise ship in the world, Sea iconthe inaugural voyage from the port of Miami is due to begin on Saturday, following the christening of Lionel Messi and his teammates.

L'Sea iconowned by cruise line Royal Caribbean, spans nearly 1,200 feet from bow to stern, or more than 365 meters long, CBS News reported.

Its 20 decks are divided into eight districts and are home to six water slides, seven swimming pools, an ice rink, a theater and more than 40 restaurants, bars and lounges. It can also carry up to 7,600 passengers as well as 2,350 crew members.

The giant of the sea was due to leave South Florida on his first seven-day trip around the tropical islands days after he was officially christened by football legend Lionel Messi and his Inter Miami teammates.

“L”Sea icon is the culmination of more than 50 years of visioning, innovation and fulfilling our mission: to responsibly deliver the best vacation experiences to the world,” said Jason Liberty, Chairman and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group.

Originally unveiled to the world in October 2022, the ship generated the highest number of bookings per day and then the highest number of bookings per week for cruise operator Royal Caribbean in its 53-year history.

“[Ce bateau] is a great multi-generational family holiday that is changing the status quo of family travel forever and making dreams come true for everyone on board,” Mr Liberty added earlier this week.
