Ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup, Rohit Sharma-led India crushed Sri Lanka by 10 wickets to clinch their eighth Asia Cup title. The victory in the Asia Cup puts India back on the map of champions of the multi-team tournament, where the team has faced problems in recent years. Former Indian captain Kapil Dev, who led India in its first World Cup in 1983, expressed his happiness over the performance of Team India and said that the Indian team is ready to play in the World Cup.
Kapil Dev said as a cricketer we want to see more close matches but as a player I will say win them as soon as possible. “What a fantastic game of cricket. As a cricketer I would like to see a much closer game but as a player I feel 30 pe out karo, aake jeeto,” Kapil Dev was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
On the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023, Kapil Dev said that finishing in the top 4 is very important and now we can’t say if we are favorites to win the World Cup. He added that India seems ready to play in the championship. “I think if we get to the top 4, it’s more important. You can’t say we are favorites now. Our team is very good. We have to work very hard. I know about my team. I don’t know. I don’t know about other teams…Indian the team is ready to play and win the championship,” said the former Indian captain.
ODI World Cup 2023 squad open to changes
With the celebration mode for the Asia Cup over, Team India will look forward to a tough preparation ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023. India’s squad is announced but captain Rohit Sharma indicated that the team is open to further changes if needed.
“As an all-round spinner, Ashwin is in line. I spoke to him over the phone. The injury happened to Axar at the last minute. Washington was available so he had to come and do the job for us.” ,” Hindustan Times quoted Rohit as saying.
The last date to finalize the ODI World Cup 2023 squad is September 28 and changes are very possible before then.
