PAHO’s virtual public health campus celebrates 20 years with more than 2.5 million users – PAHO/WHO

Washington, DC 2023 October 30 (PAHO) – The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) celebrated its 20th anniversary today. Virtual Campus for Public Health (VCPH), highlighting her fundamental contribution to virtual health education. Today, Campus has more than 2.5 million users.

“When we look back to 2003 and remember the beginning of this innovative platform, we see not only a technological tool, but also the birth of a vision,” said PAHO Director Dr. Jabas Barbosa during the event to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Virtual Campus.

With users from 225 countries and territories worldwide, VCPH has proven to be a strategic technical collaboration tool for rapid training of healthcare workers. During the pandemic, she also played a key role in providing critical information to health teams across the Americas region.

Offering a wide range of courses on various health topics, the PAHO director emphasized that this virtual platform has evolved from a useful online tool to an online university with internationally recognized micro-certifications.

“In this era of digital transformation, technology and connectivity are changing the way we live, work and learn. In this context, the Virtual Campus celebrates 20 years of putting knowledge into practice, promoting the development of trained healthcare workers to ensure resilient health. services,” added Dr. Barbosa.

All courses offered by VCPH are freely available and are delivered in Spanish, French, English and Portuguese, the four official languages ​​of PAHO.

Launching the new VCPH app

The commemoration event also featured the launch of a new Virtual Campus app that will allow users to access the platform from any device, anywhere, anytime.

The app will also allow users to download resources and materials offline.

“This new app marks a milestone in our mission to bring PAHO knowledge to those who need it by providing unprecedented flexibility and accessibility to public health education,” said James Fitzgerald, Director of PAHO’s Department of Health Systems and Services.
