RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das has been given an “A+” rating among central bankers worldwide.

New York-based Global Finance magazine rated central bank governor Shaktikanta Das an “A+” in the Global Finance Central Banker Report Cards 2023. Das topped the list of three central bank governors rated in the highest category (A+ ), including Thomas J. Jordan from Switzerland and Nguyen Thi Hong from Vietnam.

The current accolade for Das comes months after he was named the 2023 “Governor of the Year” in March 2023 central banking, international economic research journal.

The Global Finance report includes the names of central bank governors who earned A+, A or A- grades as part of the Central Banker Report Cards 2023. “The full Central Banker Report Cards 2023 report and list of grades will be published in the October edition of Global Finance. and digital editions and online at GFMag.com,” the statement reads.

The Central Banker Report Cards, published annually by Global Finance since 1994, rates the central bank governors of 101 key countries, territories and counties, including the European Union, the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, the Bank of Central African States and the Central Bank of the West African States.

Grades are based on a scale of A to F for success in controlling inflation, economic growth goals, currency stability and interest rate management. An “A” grade represents excellent performance down to an “F” for complete failure.

Additionally, bank governors who earned an “A” grade on the Global Finance Central Banker Report Cards 2023 are Roberto Campos Neto of Brazil; Amir Yaron of Israel; Harvesh Kumar Seegolam from Mauritius; Adrian Orr of New Zealand; Jose Cantero Sienra of Paraguay; Julio Velarde of Peru; Chin-Long Yang from Taiwan; and Diego Labat from Uruguay.

Bank governors who earned an “A-” grade include Leonardo Villar of Colombia; Hector Valdez Albizu of the Dominican Republic; Asgeir Jonsson from Iceland; Perry Warjiyo from Indonesia; Victoria Rodriguez Ceja from Mexico; Abdellatif Jouahri of Morocco; Ida Wolden Bache from Norway; Lesetja Kganyago from South Africa; Rhee Changyong from South Korea; and Nandalal Weerasinghe of Sri Lanka.

Founded in 1987, Global Finance claims a circulation of 50,000 readers in 193 countries, territories and territories. His audience includes senior corporate and financial officers responsible for making investment and strategic decisions for multinational companies and financial institutions.

Shaktikanta Das, an IAS officer and former Secretary in the Departments of Revenue and Economic Affairs in the Ministry of Finance, took charge as the 25th Governor of the RBI on 12 December 2018. His tenure was extended for an additional three years in 2021 amid the Covid crisis, making him the fifth RBI Governor with such a long tenure so far.
