SAP SE announces the appointment of Valters Sun as Global Head of Artificial Intelligence

SAP SE announced the appointment of Walter Sun as Global Head of Artificial Intelligence. Walter Sun joins SAP on September 1 after serving as vice president of applied artificial intelligence for business applications at Microsoft. With experience in technology innovation and strategic management, Walter Sun will play a critical role in advancing SAP’s innovative vision of relevant, reliable and responsible artificial intelligence for business. Mr. Sun joined Microsoft in 2005 and has held increasingly senior scientific and product development positions,
He currently leads an interdisciplinary team developing AI and machine learning capabilities. Additionally, he founded Bing Predicts, which uses anonymized, aggregated data for predictive analytics. He has also developed many AI capabilities across Microsoft’s portfolio, including applications such as Bing Search, Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Dynamics 365, and Microsoft Power Platform. Previously, Mr. Sun worked at BlackRock Financial Management as a quantitative portfolio analyst and Apple Inc. as a senior software engineer and scientist. His applied research interests include stochastic processes, signal processing, machine and deep learning, operations research, and large language models. He was an assistant professor at Seattle University and a member of the affiliate faculty at the University of Washington. He is currently a member of the Georgia Tech Advisory Board. Sun received his doctorate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in statistical signal and image processing and computer vision with applications in medical imaging.
