Three Vaudreuil-Soulanges cheerleading teams rank among the best in the world

Three cheerleading squads from Vaudreuil-Soulanges recently excelled at the Universal Cheerleading Association American High School National Championships on February 10th and 11th at ESPN Wide World Sports at Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

The sports teams of Cité-des-Jeunes and Soulanges secondary schools not only made a good impression on the judges of the sports competition. They were able to charm them as they finished 1st and 3rd in their respective categories, which ranks them among the best school cheerleading squads in the world.

Great results, despite the course littered with obstacles

The champion team that climbed to the top of the podium with first place is the Citadins from Cité-des-Jeunes High School Vaudreuil-Dorion. Not far behind at #3 in their respective categories are Darkness Pioneers and Black-out Pioneers.

These excellent results obviously bring joy and pride to the head coach of the three teams, Monica Rochefort, who has been in this profession for 20 years.

The teams consist of young people aged between 12 and 17 years. Only one boy is involved in cheerleading for one of his teams, and the rest of the members are young girls. We need to highlight their efforts and all the obstacles they faced to get there. Training did not take place for a month due to the strike, as the young people do cheerleading lessons outside of school, not as part of the sports study program. Everyone worked very hard to achieve this result. », she sums up on the line.

A minute and a half to beat the judges

This is Ms. Rochefort's 4th appearance at the American High School National Championships.Universal Association of Cheerleaders which still happens at Disneyland every two years. For some of the young girls from Vaudreuil-Soulanges, it was their first experience there. Most of the cheerleaders had already participated in the event, which brings together teams from the United States, Canada, Jamaica, Mexico and around the world.

How is the competition? Or a movie Everything for everyone director peyton reed realistic? ” Actually, yes it is (laughs)! It's not bad, as it happens. We have one minute before kick-off to present our team and our colours. After that, we have to present a one and a half minute long choreography, after which we are judged. My colleagues and I created choreographies from A to Z “, she adds.

How do you create original cheerleading choreography? Watching hours of content on Netflix or other platforms for inspiration. ” You must also follow the rules of the Universal Cheerleading Association, which all participating teams are subject to. In conclusion, I would like to thank my entire coaching team, accompanying parents and, of course, congratulate the athletes. », she concludes.
