NEW DELHI: Star Indian batsman Virat Kohli he surpassed the former Australian captain on Sunday Ricky Pontingsecuring the second highest score in history ODI World Cup.
After his 54-run contribution against Australia in the final match of the ODI World Cup 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Virat has amassed a total of 1795 runs in 37 matches, boasting an impressive average of 59.83. In his 37 ODI World Cup appearances, the former India captain has scored five centuries and 12 fifties, with his highest score being 117.
Virat’s achievement took him past Ricky Ponting’s total of 1,743 runs to become the second highest run scorer in World Cup history.
Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar currently holds the top spot with 2,278 runs in 44 innings, which includes six centuries and 15 fifties.

The 35-year-old also ended his ODI World Cup 2023 journey with the most runs (765) by a scorer in a single edition of the prestigious tournament, overtaking Tendulkar’s 673 runs in 2003.
Virat finished with fifty-plus scores in a single edition of the World Cup with nine half-centuries and went past Tendulkar’s seventy in 2003 and Shakib al Hasan’s in 2019.
