Virat Kohli will turn 35 on November 5, which coincides with India’s much-anticipated World Cup match against South Africa at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. To make this special day even more special, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has come up with a grand plan according to President Snehasish Ganguly.
All tickets for the match are sold out, showing a packed house eager to witness this unique combination of cricket and celebration. To further elevate the atmosphere, CAB leaves no stone unturned.
The association intends to distribute around 70,000 masks bearing King Kohli’s face to the fans in attendance. They hope that when the ace batsman enters the stadium, he will be greeted by a sea of his own faces, each worn by an ardent supporter.
“We want every fan in the stadium to have Kohli masks on entry. We plan to distribute about 70,000 masks on the day,” Ganguly was quoted as saying by PTI.
Before the game starts, there is also a cake cutting. Kohli should also receive a special memento from the CAB, marking his contribution to cricket and this particular occasion. The association is currently awaiting final approval from the International Cricket Council (ICC) to go ahead with these celebrations.
Eden Gardens has seen similar fanfare before. There was a huge celebration in November 2013 when Sachin Tendulkar played his 199th Test match there.
India’s dream run
India are on a dream run so far in this World Cup. The Rohit Sharma-led team beat England by a massive 100 runs to reach Mumbai to play their next match against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium.
The men in blue were spotted in high spirits after arriving in Mumbai. Openers Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan engaged in conversation after boarding the team bus, indicating a relaxed but focused mood in the camp, according to ANI.
