FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – According to the speaker, virtual reality and block chain technology can be useful for retinal surgical training.

Houston described how VR headsets, video recorders, and a virtual desktop application help him practice.
“You can easily switch down and make it stereoscopic. It’s a very simple way to watch 3D videos, “he said.
Houston also discussed technological change in the field of surgical education. He said the metaverse, a virtual communication space where user interaction mimics the real world, can be used for virtual additional meetings, for residents and colleagues to learn, for new surgical techniques and for certifications. He plans to hold a major round of ophthalmology at the metaverse later this year.
In addition, irreplaceable tokens may play a future role in the retina. Houston said block chain technology could be used for images, surgical videos, lectures, articles, posters, and magazine articles.
Houston said the virtual surgical amphitheater allows individuals to use close-up visual and instructional videos whose sound will be louder when the user approaches the virtual space, much like in real life.
“It’s a new way to start thinking about how we can create a better surgical experience for people around the world and help them get an education,” he said.
